Welcome to Pilius X Design
The material
Pilius X processed from human hair is 20% stronger than standard
fibreglass. The material is a bio-polymer and mixed with a bio-resin
it then becomes a sustainable and recyclable material. There are 2800 tonnes of waste hair cuttings produced in the UK annually.
It has many
applications including:
Architecture, furniture, automobile and marine industry, millinery,
clothing, and shoes using the correct matrix (the bonding agent ie
resin).
The chair
Known at the Stiletto chair and ergonomically designed to give back
and lumber support the chair is made from 100% human hair mixed with
polyester matrix. Future chairs will be made with bio-resins.
The designer
Ronald Thompson graduated in 2006 from London South Bank University
gaining a 1st Class degree in Environmental Product Design. Ronald
began his career as a professional hairdresser at the John Freida
salon in W1, London, and now aims to develop the bio-polymer Pilius X
with the backing of London South Bank University.
